Contact

1. Nowadays there is an increasing trend to search for extraterrestrial life, and we also hope that contact with alien intelligence will be made possible.

2. However how many are the probabilities that we discover extraterrestrial life, and how much are we prepared for a real contact?

3. Some say that our efforts to come in contact with an alien civilization are based on our spirit of adventure.

4. But mostly our expectations depend on our desperate attempt to find a new meaning in life, and to our deepest desire to find a new savior, a new form of god to believe in.

5. Therefore what would really be our reaction if we did come in contact with an advanced alien civilization, beyond panic and social collapse?

6. In order to answer the question whether extraterrestrial intelligence exists and why, if they have visited us but they prefer to stay hidden, we may simply come to their place.

7. First of all mathematically the possibility of their existence is almost certain: Within a trillion solar systems in our galaxy alone, it is impossible that we are the only ones. It is more plausible to assume that at least some thousands other civilizations like our own exist out there.

8. If additionally even a handful of them have reached a stage more advanced than our own, it is possible that a couple of them have already paid us one or more visits. Hence where are they? Why haven’t we seen them?

9. So let’s now come to their place. Let’s suppose that it is us the sufficiently advanced civilization, and that we are capable of interstellar travel throughout our galaxy and even further.

10. Let’s assume that we have discovered a dozen ‘primitive’ but interesting civilizations, at the same stage that we used to be (corresponding to our current stage).

11. This is the rule we have introduced in that case: Contact must be indirect for the sake of the less advanced civilization (avoid the spread of diseases, culture shock, or hostile behavior on their behalf).

12. Therefore all observation will be discrete, and all specimens will be collected secretly. Our methods of camouflage and diversion will guaranty that they will be unable to see us, or that even if they see something they will be unable to interpret it correctly and beyond doubt.

13. Only when and if they reach the necessary level of progress will we make our presence evident. Anyway there is no meaning to come in direct contact with a primitive civilization, because they will simply be unable to understand and learn anything.

14. Thus I believe that I have already answered the famous question: “Where are they?” In all likelihood they have already visited us, but they have kept their presence secret. They have had no reason to communicate with us.

15. Apparently a civilization so much advanced as to roam the galaxy will not have any need for our resources, and they could settle wherever they like- in fact they may have transformed their own spaceships into sustainable ‘space-cities.’

16. Conclusively what we are left with is our own curiosity about alien lifeforms which we have never detected, and ignorance about their whereabouts- lack of evidence is not evidence of lack.
