Pretending ignorance

1. So many people think that they know everything. But blind faith is only for the faint- hearted. Only those who are weak never challenge the Gods they believe in.

2. The same people often talk about themselves. They talk about everything without thinking at the same time what they are talking about. But is there any answer before any question comes about?

3. The worse thing about these people is that they can’t be taught anything. Assuming that they know, they will never listen to what they might don’t know. Not only this, but finally they will try to impose their own ideas on others.

4. An absolute point of view can never be challenged. Absolute certainty is equivalent to emptiness- it collapses if challenged. A wise enemy will leave. An ignorant friend will become hostile.

5. So which category you and I may fall in? What is the difference between thinking that we know and knowing that we might don’t know? What is the importance of pretending ignorance?

6. Take for example what I am writing right now. How many people will understand what I am writing about? How do I know whether what I am writing makes any sense at all?

7. One answer might be that educated people will always find some importance to creative writing, no matter what the subject or the style might be.

8. Another aspect is that even if they don’t understand, they will try to make some sense out of the things they don’t understand:

9. ‘I don’t know what exactly you mean, but I will defend your right to say so.’

10. ‘I am assuming the existence of God, although I can never prove my assumption.’

11. ‘I regard that I am learning something, otherwise I wouldn’t question my knowing so.’

12. It seems that there will always be a white minority of thinking smart people among a vast indifferent crowd. “Blessed are the poor in spirit…” They will never face the challenge of the truth. But they will also never enjoy the adventures of their own odyssey.

13. Some might argue that the role of the knowledgeable is to enlighten the rest, but I doubt that. Those who think that they know will never learn. Those who search for knowledge are independent people. You cannot teach knowledge. Knowledge is the process of sharing the truth of others.

14. This is similar to the current belief about the structure of the universe. It is thought that the vast majority of mass in the universe is dark matter, while just a small fraction is ‘bright’ (ordinary) matter. While, one way or the other, the two forms of matter interact with each other, they exist separately.

15. The same is true for people. When you come in contact with an ignorant person, just pretend that you know. Be friendly and agreeable, give a hint, and move away gently. The progress of society will eventually be determined by the advancement of your extraordinary kind.

16. Ultimately wisdom is a self-referring process. Take a look at your mirror, but don’t admire yourself. Imagine you are nobody. Leave aside the last thing you can remember. Forget about the last thing you have thought of. Only forgetfulness can save a wise person. Pretending ignorance is what knowledge is all about.
