1. What will the planet look like in a million years?

2. Let’s take a look one million years back in time.

3. This is about the time when we discovered fire.

4. It took us another million years to discover the atom.

5. What great discovery follows in the next one million years?

6. There are two main options we have in the future.

7. The first option is the artificial model of an advanced civilization.

8. Presumably in the future all people may live in cities under big artificial domes, where all products, including fuel, food, water and oxygen, will be produced at a molecular level.

9. Outside such ‘cathedral’ cities and their granaries the natural landscape will be deserted, with sparse plant or animal life, as humans will have exploited all natural resources.

10. Humans living in such cities will have no measure to distinguish between what is artificial and what is natural.

11. Some might argue that by destroying the planet human survival is not possible.

12. However this is not necessarily true.

13. Transforming all the natural environment- thus having it disappear- into an artificial one which suits our own needs doesn’t necessarily threaten our survival.

14. However it seriously undermines our morality and sense of beauty- thus our personality- as a species.

15. What will our life like be if we live like moles or robots, having no sense of humanity or naturality left?

16. I believe that after we have settled on other planets- which will probably be much less hospitable than our own- our home planet will be spared as a natural resort.

17. Humans will regularly leave their artificial cities in the extrasolar colonies to spend their holidays back in their homeland- planet Earth.

18. In that sense our home planet will have been reserved as a natural museum and a tourist attraction.

19. Only then will we have solved the environmental and, at the same time, our own existential problem.

20. Thus in a million years from now the unearthing of a primitive civilization- our own civilization right now- on an otherwise unspoiled planet- the Earth, if it will have turned into a resort- will be the greatest discovery of the future generations.
